What Causes Jet Lag?
These environmental factors cause your own body clock to run, much like your mantle clock, on a series of twenty four cycles, often referred to as your body's circadian rhythms. In particular, your body clock tells your body when it is time to shut down for sleep and when it is time to wake up and start the day's activities. By flying across several time zones and placing your body clock out balance with local time you upset the whole rhythm of your day, giving rise to such things as problems sleeping at night, staying awake during the day and eating when you wouldn't normally eat. Much as our lives are controlled by time today, your body clock is also responsible for many of your body's functions. Your body contains its own internal clock which takes its time from the environment responding to such things as temperature, humidity and, most importantly, the normal daily change from daylight to darkness.

How to Overcome Jetlag
Jetlag is a condition that arises from crossing multiple time zones in a relatively short time and consequently disturbs your natural body clock or circadian rhythms. Jet Lag - 5 Pre-travel Steps to Reduce the Effects of Jet Lag
Taken during the middle of the day, caffeine has little or no effect on your body's circadian rhythms. However, when you arrive at your destination this will mean that you are now going to bed at 11. Reduce stress in the days before traveling. This might mean that immediately prior to leaving you are going to bed at say 7. You should begin to manage your body clock by gradually and slowly adjusting your bedtime and wake up time in the days before your journey, to bring these into line with the local time at your destination.
