The Dallas-based carrier grounded those planes for several hours Saturday after the FAA’s inspection. The unauthorized part known as a hinge fitting goes on the airplane’s wing FAA spokesman Les Dorr said. The FAA determined that the unauthorized part “was not an immediate safety hazard” Dorr said and it is working with Southwest to find a solution. Though the FAA found no immediate safety issue Southwest temporarily grounded the planes anyway said lga Romero a spokeswoman for the airline.

plane again flies into White House no-fly zone The Associated Press LANCASTER Pa. – The same Pennsylvania-owned two-seater plane that caused the evacuation of the White House four years ago after flying into restricted air space has been involved in a similar incident. Federal Aviation Administration Paul Takemoto says the 1970 Cessna 150 entered the no-fly zone Tuesday and was escorted down by two military helicopters. Takemoto says the student pilot departed from Smoketown Airport in Lancaster County. His name wasn’t released. The plane is owned by the Vintage Aero Club a group of flying enthusiasts based at the airport. A club spokesman says plane is the same one that another student flew into restricted White House air space in 2005 forcing the evacuation of thousands.

—Authorities say a pilot and his instructor are dead following the crash of an experimental single-engine plane in Glenn County. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the home-built aircraft went down just about 10:20 a. Thursday in a field near the rland airport. Glenn County Sheriff Larry Jones says the pilot was taking an annual check flight with the instructor. Their names have not been released.
