GE Aviation’s Grand Rapids Mich. operation and the FAA will look at air traffic control systems that would allow commercial airliners operating under instrument rules to fly directly to their destinations. Currently such aircraft fly a jagged route along designated airways that use ground-based radio beacons to guide them. “Safe integration of UAS (unmanned aerial systems) into our national air space will include trajectory-based flight management as an enabler” said Chris Beaufait GE Aviation’s president of avionics in a news release.
