Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently lectured airlines and major repair stations in the Philippines and its neighboring countries on the latest aircraft safety and maintenance practices to keep them abreast of international standards. During the first-ever Maintenance Safety Seminar in the Philippines the US FAA San Francisco International Field ffice (SF-IF) and FAA Safety Team (FAAST) provided comprehensive safety practices in civil aviation maintenance that airlines and repairs stations around the world should strictly follow. The three-day seminar was sponsored by flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) in cooperation with the Civil Aviation Administration of the Philippines (CAAP). To read the full story.

Passengers would pay less to huddle next to what have been described as “bar stools” with seatbelts around their waists. ’Leary has already held talks with US plane manufacturer Boeing about designing a jet with standing room. He is now hoping to get the go-ahead from the Irish Aviation Authority before ordering a new fleet. A Ryanair spokesman said: “If they approve it we’ll be doing it. ” ’Leary got the idea from Chinese airline Spring which put forward similar plans — estimating they could pack in up to 50 per cent more passengers and slash costs by 20 per cent.

The newspaper had reported June 10 that Ahmad was a candidate to lead the Jacksonville Aviation Authority. The two finalists now are: Colin Lowndes a senior executive with a Canadian airport management company; and Steven Grossman director of aviation for the Port of akland in California according to a July 2 report. Before coming to Dayton Ahmad worked at the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority where he was a vice president since November 2002. He led the department of planning design and construction. The MNAA owns and operates Nashville International Airport which has 9 million travelers pass through annually and a general aviation airport.
