City officials who anticipated the decision will likely file an appeal with the FAA’s associate administrator for policy who must make a final ruling by July 8. If the City loses as is widely expected it can then file an appeal in federal court. Thursday’s decision came six days after a federal appeals court on Friday upheld a legal order obtained by the FAA blocking the City from enacting a 2008 ordinance that bans C and D aircraft with approach speeds of between 139 and 191 mph. FAA officials have said the law which the City Council adopted a year ago is unnecessary illegally discriminates against aircraft types and harms jet operators.

While its customers are typically “well-to-do” the recession is still taking a toll. “We face the same challenges I think most companies are facing today. That is a reduction in demand which obviously puts a burden on the staff” said operations director Gary Helmeid.

All five passengers on board and the pilot were killed. The plane had just left the airport and crashed into the yard of a home near the airport. “The plane plummeted when it made a turn towards the left’ said the head of the Civil Aviation ffice Juan Jose Carlos. He added that they still do not know if it was an engine failure or a pilot error. The plane was reported to be bound for Belize but indications are that there were no Belizeans on board. We have confirmed with Aero-Dispatch Services at the airport that they were expecting the plane to arrive this afternoon but that is about all they know. And in another item of note from Guatemala President Alavaro Colom is under tremendous domestic pressure tonight as he is being accused of murder.

Yeager Airport looks for damage after dump truck crash

Atkinson says the driver of the large truck at a construction site failed to lower a raised bed that struck the tower at about 1 p. Some bolts were knocked out of the tower and the cross piece was dented. Federal Aviation Administration officials also were headed to the airport to check on the structure.
