Natural Resources Police funding cut as State Police get new choppers
Baltimore Sun United States
We’re talking about two helicopters – really old ones at that – two pilots and a mechanic. The “squadron” consists of a 1970 Army surplus chopper and a 1972 Bell Jet Ranger with 14000 hours of flight time – a hand-me-down from State Police when it bought new birds in 1989 the same helicopters it calls “aging” now. Total annual price tag for the aviation unit: $100000. I take him at his word. The bottom of every Department of Natural Resources news release contains this statement: “DNR manages more than 449000 acres of public lands and 17000 miles of waterways along with Maryland’s forests fisheries and wildlife for maximum environmental economic and quality of life benefits.

Airbus A380 is a mixed blessing for LAX
Los Angeles Times CA
Schaben Los Angeles Timesther planes seem small next to the Airbus A380 taxiing to its gate at LAX. Because of the plane’s size the airport must take special precautions every time one takes off or lands. The immense plane causes problems at L. ‘s airport but in the world of aviation bigger is considered better so LAX copes. By Dan Weikel January 25 2009Every time Qantas lands one of its giant Airbus A380s at LAX parts of the nation’s fourth-busiest airport come to a halt. Service roads taxiways and runways must be closed to airfield trucks cars and other commercial aircraft as the world’s largest passenger plane — with wings almost as long as a football field — arrives departs and taxis with an official escort of operations vehicles.
