French Concorde Crash Manslaughter Trial To Begin In Feb 2010

airline Continental Airlines Inc. (CAL) and twoof its employees for manslaughter over the crash of a Concorde airliner in 2000will start in February next year prosecutors said Monday. A former French civil aviation official and two senior members of the Concordeprogram will be tried on the same charge before a criminal court in Pontoiseoutside Paris. The New York-bound Concorde crashed in a ball of fire shortly after takeofffrom Paris Charles de Gaulle airport on July 25 2000 killing all 109 people onboard and four workers on the ground. The trial of Continental Airlines and the five defendants will open Feb. 22010 the Pontoise prosecutor said. A French accident inquiry concluded in December 2004 the disaster was partlycaused by a strip of metal that fell on the runway from a Continental AirlinesDC-10 plane that took off just before the supersonic airliner.

Great Lakes adds airline service to four Montana cities

(AP) — Beginning Feb. 1 commercial airline service will return to the Montana cities of Glasgow Glendive Havre and Wolf Point. Great Lakes Aviation of Cheyenne Wyo. announced Wednesday it will resume daily flights between the four cities and Billings. Those cities and three others in eastern Montana were served for three decades by Big Sky Airlines but financial problems forced the airline out of business last March. Great Lakes assumed Big Sky’s federal Essential Air Service contract to serve Montana. Essential Air Service is a program offering airlines federal subsidies to serve routes to small cities that otherwise would be unprofitable.

But the same frozen credit markets that hurt AIG are making it hard to find a buyer for debt-laden ILFC and the planes it values at some $50 billion. ILFC should be one of AIG’s most attractive assets in part because it has nothing to do with the troubled housing finance sector. Its 950 planes make up the world’s second-largest fleet behind only GE Commercial Aviation Services. ILFC’s customers include Fort Worth-based American Airlines Delta Air Lines JetBlue and US Airways although 90% of its business is done internationally. Small Plane Crashes in Florida Panhandle Pilot Not Found
