Pioneer Museum chronicles history of aviation in Valley
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle, MT
Hanging from the ceiling are precise models of antique airplanes that can still be seen flying around Bozeman thanks to some avid airplane restorers. The exhibit opened on Friday evening to a crowd of 70, including some of the pilots who helped the students gather the information for the exhibit. Pond said she was so nervous for the opening, when experts in aviation would pick over their work, that she can only remember about half of the night. The three began working on the exhibit last May, uncovering far more information than could be used in the exhibit. As is so often true in historical study, piecing together early accounts proved the most difficult, Lowell said. But they got through it, and will be following up the exhibit with a publication of all they learned, said John Russell, the museum’s executive director. “This is one of the larger scale projects any intern has done,” Russell said.
Aviation College signups begin
Sand Mountain Reporter, AL
“The aviation’s industry’s demand for qualified technicians and mechanics continues to increase and EOCC offers the only comprehensive aviation maintenance program in Alabama,” the college said in a release. “In aviation programs, students study theory and then learn how to apply that theory in hands-on laboratories. “The programs are designed to ensure graduates meet industry standards and are prepared for certification with the Federal Aviation Administration. ” Officials have planned for an initial enrollment of 200 students. By establishing the temporary school here, city leaders hope Albertville eventually becomes the permanent North Alabama campus of Alabama Aviation College, currently headquartered in Ozark.
