The WindTracer system will operate at the temporary location used for the
2007 test activities until the permanent site is ready. During the 2008 wind
shear season, improved alerting software will be installed and tested on
additional wind shear events to further refine the sensing capability and
ready the system for full operational alerting in 2009. Organizations involved in the WindTracer demonstration at McCarran
included the FAA (administration and meteorological support), Lockheed Martin,
Clark County Department of Aviation and McCarran International Airport. McCarran International Airport is the principal commercial airport serving
Las Vegas and Clark County, Nevada. In 2007, McCarran ranked 14th in the world
for passenger traffic, with 47,595,140 passengers passing through the
terminal. The airport was ranked sixth in the world for aircraft movements,
with 609,472 takeoffs and landings. Headquartered in Bethesda, Md.

Search and Rescue in Process for Missing Plane Conducting …

on board in Guyana. The last communication from the aircraft was on
the afternoon of Saturday, November 1, 2008. Search and rescue
efforts are being lead by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority and
assisted by the British Royal Air Force, who are in the area on a
training mission. contracted Terraquest Limited, a specialist in airborne
geophysics based in Markham, Ontario, to conduct a geophysical survey
in the interior of Guyana under the permission of the Guyana
authorities. Terraquest contracted a twin-engine, turboprop
Beechcraft King Air from Dynamic Aviation Inc. of Bridgewater,
Virginia to undertake the airborne survey.

Road work to close Aviation Ave. ramp

ramp Tuesday, November 4, 2008 A westbound lane on Interstate 26 in North Charleston will be closed at night through Wednesday. An Aviation Avenue on-ramp to the interstate will remain closed for the week. The westbound closings will be to repair cracks in the road concrete; westbound is the direction travelling from Charleston. The Aviation Avenue on-ramp is for traffic coming from the airport. Detours redirect that traffic to Remount Road. The interstate can still be accessed by traffic coming from Rivers Avenue.
