The parts have enamel paint on some structural components, making it harder for mechanics to detect corrosion, the Journal said, citing a Federal Aviation Administration alert issued a week ago. Aircraft maintenance provider AAR Corp shipped the “unapproved” parts in more than 300 instances, primarily for use in Boeing 747 and 767 aircraft, it said. Illinois-based AAR, a major supplier with annual revenue above one billion dollars, disputed the allegations and demanded clarification from the FAA. Its Miami-based AAR Landing Gear Services works for “a long list of carriers world-wide,” according to the Journal.
